Sarah became passionate about doing social good early in life, living in Eastern Europe and volunteering in the nonprofit world as a child. She majored in Sociology with a minor in Media Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, and became interested in combining data and trends in society with progressive work in media, particularly as a writer. While there, she interned as the lead social media and web content writer at CreateAthon@VCU, which has provided over 2 million dollars worth of pro bono marketing deliverables to nonprofits in Richmond, Virginia. She also led a summer class for the children of refugees in a resettlement program, and interviewed women facing domestic violence in Honduras. She later moved to New York City, where she explored her creative potential as a musician while volunteering as a music therapist for children with Down’s syndrome and adults in psychiatric facilities. She is passionate about combating mental health stigma, and has advocated for more compassionate care in the mental health system and in society as a whole through her writing and music. After a brief stint as a quarantined freelance film composer, she came to Whole Whale to return to her nonprofit roots, eager to unleash the power of data and tech to make a greater social impact as a writer. In her free time, she enjoys singing original songs, doing yoga, reading, and traveling. She is also a proud cat mom.
