Founded in 2004, Games for Change facilitates the creation and distribution of social impact games that serve as critical tools in humanitarian and educational efforts. Their aim is to leverage entertainment and engagement for social good. To further grow the field, Games for Change convenes multiple stakeholders, highlights best practices, incubates games, and helps create and direct investment into new projects.

The Challenge

Games For Change needed broad help across multiple technical platforms in order to increase the efficiency of their team. The organization relies on the traffic and performance of its website, and needed more support to understand their Google Analytics and maximize their Google AdWords grant.

What we did

Starting in 2013, Whole Whale supported Games For Change for 2 years with day-to-day technical strategy, staff recruitment, and Google AdWords support.

Google AdWords grant

We were able to increase year-over-year AdWords utilization by nearly 200% in 2013. In addition, we provided training and solutions that have increased both the efficiency and digital security of Games For Change.

Google Analytics & Impact Mapping

In order to better understand user behavior, we created custom Google Dashboards and website goals that tracked key activities. Social tracking also allowed the team to optimize their content creation.

Training & Capacity Building

Whole Whale worked in the office with Games For Change, doing hands-on training around Google Analytics, AdWords and other critical web operations. We also helped guided the hiring process for a digital manager position.

Testimony

“When Whole Whale came on board to help Games for Change we were like many non-profits: lean, lacked some infrastructure and capacity. They immediately rolled up their sleeves to find the right tech solutions to increase our impact. For the long term, they cared about staff training and helped us to understand and leverage our data in order to build our community and network.”
