When is #GivingTuesdayNow?

#GivingTuesdayNow will take place on May 5th, 2020.

What is #GivingTuesdayNow?

In March 2020, GivingTuesday announced its new Day of Global Action for Giving and Unity in Response to COVID-19. This day of giving welcomes “individuals, nonprofits, communities, small businesses, brands and more” in a unifying moment for giving back this May.

#GivingTuesdayNow

With many nonprofits dealing with canceled fundraising events due to COVID-19, #GivingTuesdayNow will help rally potential donors to give when their support is needed most by organizations around the world who are serving their communities through this health crisis. The goal of this global moment of giving is to “tap into the power of human connection,” highlighting the first-responders and other crucial nonprofit and community organizations that are working tirelessly on the frontlines of this pandemic and mobilizing donors to support them.

Why Now: Quote from GivingTuesday’s CEO

“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. Every act of kindness is not only a beacon of hope, it’s a critical act of civic and social solidarity.”

Use Public Calendars to Trigger Giving Reminders

Because #GivingTuesdayNow is coming up so soon, we recommend rallying your existing members to share a calendar reminder to give on the day.

Create a public calendar invite on Google (and other online calendars) to remind your audience to take action on May 5th, 2020 #GivingTuesdayNow. You can add specific instructions and links in the invite, and start sending it out in emails to supporters weeks before the actual day. This allows your to create the opportunity for immediate and early action that will then show up again on supporters’ calendars, phones, and even e-watches, increasing the chances that they will act.

Create a Facebook Fundraising CTA

Once you have your Facebook page setup to receive donations, create a page on your website with sample language and graphics. This page should help make the case of why your organization is relevant during the COVID-19 crisis and possibly how your own funding has been impacted.

Promote this page through your email list and Google Ad Grant. Consider how you will track and thank these donations with a Facebook Fundraising dashboard.
