Social Media is a powerful tool your nonprofit organization simply can not afford to overlook. You probably have heard this before, but let me say it again – this is incredibly important! In this training video we discuss 3 ways in which you can connect with your organization’s audience in the best possible way.
1. Healthy Diet
Think about the pie chart. You’ve got protein, fat, fruits & vegetables. The most important things is that you don’t eat everything equally right? Hopefully you don’t eat as much fat as you do vegetables. Same concept applies to your organization. What you want to do the most is listen to your audience (the fruits & veggies). What you want to do the least is the self promotion (the fat) – links back to your site, inviting to an event, etc., should be the dessert.
2. Go Where They Are!
Ask yourself – where is the conversation? Find the leaders! For example, if you’re on Twitter and you’re looking for leaders on women’s rights you might find that Forbes Woman is the place to go to. Respect the medium, find the conversation, and have it there. Always remember to provide value to your followers.
3. Build Relationships
Think about your best friend. You didn’t become best friends overnight, right? Building relationships takes time. Remember that talking about yourself the whole time, isn’t necessarily going to win you friends.
